A few months ago, Melissa reached out to me wanting to collaborate on a project interweaving flowers and people as the subject. Well, it took a while to pull everything together, but we finally did it last Friday! Huge thanks to Ivy & Connie for agreeing to model so last minute. Without further ado, here are the photos from this project.
Project goals:
Interweave the human model and flowers -- since Ivy has such long hair, we focused on how we could incorporate the flowers in her hair. For Connie, we decided to emphasize her dress.
Contrast delicate femininity with a more dark, melancholy mood. We did this through dressing the models in flowy, feminine dresses and doing a soft, delicate makeup look that wasn't too heavy but added nice pink/orange colors to their eyes, lips, and cheeks. Then, we had the models sit with their back to the windows so they would be backlit, casting a soft lighting effect on the photo. We still needed to see the subject though, so we added front studio lights that were muted to maintain the heavy contrast. I finished off this look by editing the colors to emphasize darker tones.
Behind the scenes:
Anyway this project was super fun, and I'm glad I got to share some photography with you guys besides just senior portraits. I'll be back tomorrow with our latest Senior Edit post too!
